GIM Outrage of the Day!

I'm madder than a one-legged polar bear in a butt-kicking contest in Australia!
Grrr!

The Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, Kan., plans to stage protests at funerals of victims of the 35W bridge collapse to state that God made the bridge fall because he hates America, and especially Minnesota, because of its tolerance of homosexuality.

The church and its pastor, the Rev. Fred Phelps, have become notorious over recent years for their claim that the attack of 9/11 was an act of God's vengeance and their determination to make that case at the funerals of U.S. soldiers who died in Iraq. In a press release issued the day after the bridge collapse, (http://www.godhatesfags.com/fliers/aug2007/20070802_minneapolis-bridge-collapse.pdf)the church called for protests at the funerals and outlined its feelings about the relationship between God's plan and the sins of Minneapolis and Minnesota, which it calls the "land of the Sodomite damned."

Well this should be interesting. It appears to me that he is clearly a homsexual himself--why would he hate them so much otherwise?

Strange man indeed.

Will someone, anyone just please go up and kick this ahole's ass!!!! Notice that this son of a bitch wont show up to a soldier's funeral held in Watts, South Central L.A., Oakland, Hunter's Point San Francisco, East L.A., of Harlem? They would kill this sh**head and feed his and his flocks remains to the roaming neighborhood pitbulls. Just do it....

Not necessarily agreeing with Phelps here... but how do you KNOW he's wrong??!!

What is YOUR authority for such a claim??????

Good grief. This tool obviously knows neither the Scriptures nor God. When God does get some serious fury towards the USA, I doubt some bridge collapsing and 6 or 8 people dying will seem like a big deal. Nor will He need useless tools like this Phelps moron to trumpet His wrath.

My authority doesn't come from delusional nonsense stemmed often by brainwashing at a young age. This is not a bible based argument .. simply because as a historical document it has been proven false by mountains of evidence therefore, it has no credibility. Quite simply, these people are nothing more than messengers of hate and suffering so sayeth my Authority of observation. They are also a superb example of the bible taken with a literal perspective and a weak mind. The bible is kindling and it is high time we started thinking without religious dogma. Do not mistake my personal beliefs as an attack. I have many friends who follow the bible "well, the good parts" they judge others by their actions....and homosexual activity hurts no one.

That's a stretch.

Interesting, of all I said that part is considered the stretch ! What is your take on homosexuality and how is it harmful to society? I always welcome fresh perspectives, sometimes I miss stuff .:smokin:

The exact opposite is true so that makes you a liar and one that has no credibility with me.

:no_ma: I don't believe the scumball has his facts straight.

About a million laws conflict somewhere, somehow with everybody's religious beliefs in some form or another all around the world.

Abortion, gay marriage, taxation, pagan idolatry, name it...we could name a thousand more and be sure to offend or persecute someone's beliefs.

Minnesota ?
Pro gay ?

Utah ?
Pro polygamy ?

Labels,not necessarily fact.

Why single out one state ?
I'm sure he can come up with a least one sin for each state that offends somebody's religion if he looks really hard.

Get off the soapbox dude...you're embarrassing yourself and your church.
If you don't like Minnesota move to Mexico and try out your speeches on them...they'd probably shoot you as a religious gringo lunatic.

It wasn't your relatives that died when the bridge collapsed so STFU.

The exact opposite is true so that makes you a liar and one that has no credibility with me.

You forgot to insert a cookie cutter example like chariot wheels found in the red sea, or sea life carcasses on mountain tops to refute. :thumpdown. I most certainly not a liar, I would have to honestly believe in the "good book" ...hilarious term for anyone who has read it cover to cover closely and then profess otherwise to "lie" . Of course I am assuming you simply flip from part to part as instructed by a local pastor.. probably been brainwashed starting at a young age or went through a 12 step program. Believe what you want, by jumping directly to a personal attack your credibility is lost. Here, let me a speak in your language.

1Judge not, that ye be not judged.

2For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.

3And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?

4Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?

5Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.

I make it a point to avoid personal attacks, disagree if you like. But a "liar" I am most certainly not. As for the reply earlier about the thread being pro-gay ... Homosexuality doesn't bother me .... but dude I cannot stand flamers ! Most fundamental believers react to well read individuals whom discredit the bible like the IRS to "Tax protestors" ... ya know people that actually closely look at the IRS code and speak against it or *gasp* ask questions! ....here comes the club

I'm confused on why you would post this. Actually, I'm surprised you posted beyond verse 1, as verses 2-5 related directly back to verse 1 and make the criteria for judging very clear. If you are (mis)quoting these verses as an attempt to say people shouldn't "judge" anyone, what do you make of this verse?

John 7:24
Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.

That being said, after researching their antics and personal beliefs, I just can't bring myself to support these people and what they do. I don't understand why they focus on just one issue (sodomy) as the basis of "God's judgment" and not touch on things like witchcraft, adultery, idolotry, abortion, etc. Second, why exploit an individual, rather than the event itself? Don't setup shop at a single person's funeral. Go to the place of "YHWH's wrath" and distribute your information there. Third, what is their ultimate motive for doing this, and on the same line, is what they are doing actually working? Beyond that, I have issues with their individual lives and beliefs.

There is a much lower rate of disease, accidental death, etc. in America than in many countries which are less accepting of homosexuality. I think god hates fag bashers.

As for phelps and his gang... they seem to worship and idolize the phrase "god hates fags" rather than god himself, so I suspect, by their own logic, they're going to hell.

Many highly intelligent social mammal species use sex for purposes of social bonding. Bonobos (extremely closely related to humans) are very sexual for this social bonding purpose. Sexual play occurs between nearly every individual (male to male, female to female, old to young, etc.) in a group of bonobos. This sexual play reduces fighting and stresses in the groups and bonobos are considered to be one of the most peaceful primates. Dolphins are another species that use sex for social bonding. Male dolphins use sexual rubbing to bond with each other to form successful buddy pairs. These dolphin buddies then join together to chase females. It appears that bonobos and dolphins are very bisexual.

Humans, like bonobos and dolphins, are likely a bisexual species at the biological core with some individuals ranging to one end of the scale - more attracted to the opposite sex, and some at the other end of the scale - more attracted to the same sex. Cultural training in many cases has made most of us supress our bisexual natures. Cultural training starts at a very early age, so that even in elementary school, kids go "Yuck!" at the thought of two boys kissing. Even urinal culture (where to stand at a row of urinals) enters into this cultural training (two boys at three urinals better leave a space between and don't get caught checking out the other boy's nasty bits).

Even those in gay culture who have bisexual tendencies are under pressure from other gays to "get off the fence". Gays who explore their bisexual natures by experimenting with women are under cultural pressure from other gays to stop this behavior. When Gays figure out that they are on the same-sex side of the bisexual scale, they go through some intense cultural re-programming in their social circles to the point that they and their ilk go "Yuck!" when someone talks about male-female sex.

I suspect that those who protest homosexuals too much, are driven to do this in order to counter some of their own suppressed bisexual feelings. Some of the worst gay-bashers often come out of the closet years later as having same-sex attractions.

The cultural programming is so intense and begins at such an early age that most of us find this so disturbing that we are unable to objectively evaluate this idea. We even say things like "this homo talk is disgusting, I'm done with this thread!". I've heard gays say the same thing "this bisexual talk is disgusting".

Fred Phelps will have to answer for his actions.

1 John 4:20) If someone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen?

Matthew 7:1-5) 1 “Judge not, that you be not judged. 2 For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you. 3 And why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye? 4 Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me remove the speck from your eye’; and look, a plank is in your own eye? 5 Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.

Romans 14:10) But why do you judge your brother? Or why do you show contempt for your brother? For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.
