I am looking into a part-time job at a school but in order to receive employement I have to submit to a Florida fingerprinting and background check.
I really don't like giving the government more information than they already have so I am a little torn on this. On one hand I would like the job, but on the other I seriously am sort of miffed that I would even have to do this.
Anyone have some thoughts on this or experience? Is it possible to get a background check without surrendering my private fingerprints?
Give me your honest opinions regarding how you might view this if you where in my shoes. All comments and thoughts appreciated.

If that's what they want and you want to work for the government you gotta pay the piper. You'll be one of their subjects.
Of course, silicon, thinly applied to fingers could 'change' things???

I've been printed more than once.
In your situation I would tell the School district that you are more than willing to be subjected to a background check do to concerns of Pedophiles or whatever but have a problem with finger prints and who will have the information in what data bank.
I would say due to Identity theft or mistakes in placing the info in a secure Data Base you have reservations and see it leaves you open to much shenanigans.
Offer alternative but state your case. Perhaps offer to pay an amount equal to the cost of prints to subsidize a PI looking into you. Up to $250 as long as you get a copy of his report.

Actually the school is a private school. But I guess that its a law in Florida that if you work around kids you have to have a criminal check?? I just wanted to help out with some of their marketing and do a little admin work.
I would never work for a government school... ever.

Every time when I have to travel to U.S. the local gestapo officer takes my fingerprint while I stand in front of a digital camera.
It doesn’t give me that much of a warm and fuzzy feeling inside.
To further explain what I mean about this, let me make an example of another country.
My country is next to Russia. Not many of us like to travel there. Those who do travel there aren’t very confident about their personal safety. A lot of people get robbed, a lot. Violence is not that rare. This said, you’d think that they ought to do something about those criminals?
Most people (tourist, business men etc) are not that afraid of criminals. Their # 1 fear is the police and other officials. These fears have other reasons that people’s own imagination.
These days when I have to travel to USA or UK, I feel the same as I felt when travelling to the Soviet Union or Russia.

I"ve got a carry permit, so I've been fingerprinted. I might have thought more about it now, but I got my first carry permit back in the Reagan years, so they've had my fingerprints a long time.

Florida that if you work around kids you have to have a criminal check??
There you have it.
This ain't 1950. In this day and age, you gotta do background checks. However. i know for a fact that you do not need someone's fingerprints to do an extensive background check.

Any information that you can point me to so I can try that? This is all new to me. Where would be a good place to start?
