So, after all the recent news about the world's markets coming undone, I suddenly felt pretty insecure with my 70% cash position. I locked in some decent profits on my gold at $880 two weeks ago, and with the spread it just isn't worth buying back in unless it goes waaaaaay lower, like below 800. I'm into some PM stocks, so I'm still playing the gold market albeit with much greater risk. However, I've wanted to diversify in something else other than gold, so in the highly unlikely event that it tanks like in the early 1980's, I'll still be covered.
Ever since I've taken the red pill I've been wanting to get some solid weapons to defend myself should the need ever arise. 4 months ago I bought my first handgun, a Springfield XD-9, and 2000 rounds of Speer JHP (the Speer at half off!). 1 month ago, I began my quest to put together a nice long gun. I purchased a barely-used Remington 700 LTR, and I've got an Mark 4 M3 scope, base and rings on order direct from Leupold through their military discount program. It's turning into quite a hobby, and I'm having a lot of fun learning about long distance shooting.
Well, after today's market action I went and decided to get rid of some more of my cash position. 1000 rounds of Federal .308 Gold Medal Match - that's right, the good stuff. It retails at around $34 per 20 round box but I've seen it starting to drop in availability. I found a damn good deal at just under $1k shipped for two 500 rnd cases. Ammo is only going to go up, what with wars and inflation (thanks Ben :sarc:).
I'll post some pics up when I get the rifle completed. I LOVE the 20" barrel. :D
