PREGNENOLONE
Pregnenolone is not itself a steroid hormone, but is the precursor for the production of all the human steroid hormones, including DHEA, progesterone, estrogen, testosterone, cortisone, cortisol, aldosterone.
Shown to be safe even at high doses up to 1000 mg. Many women prefer pregnenolone to DHEA because it converts to progesterone, while DHEA does not. Pregnenolone is a balancing hormone having the ability to adjust other hormone levels to a more normal state. Stress causes the release of excess cortisol which can be toxic to the system. Pregnenolone modulates the negative effects of excess cortisol.
Pregnenolone is made from cholesterol. It is primarily produced by your adrenal glands but other tissues & organs make small amounts. Yes, cholesterol is not all bad. It is vital to adequate sex & adrenal hormone production. Too little cholesterol is problematic as well as too much. Our bodies need balance.
Pregnenolone is the most prevalent hormone in your brain. It has been shown to improve:
Depression. Improves mood (depressed patients have been found to have decreased cerebrospinal levels of pregnenolone.)
Memory & mental clarity.
Allergies & inflammation.
Arthritis. In those with rheumatoid arthritis a dose of 100-500 mg/daily helped relieve joint pain, tenderness, spasticity, & improved strength & range of motion.
Energy.
Productivity in workers who said they felt better & were better able to cope with job pressure.
Functioning & the sense of well being when working under stress.
PMS syndrome.
Menopausal symptoms.
Avoid if you have breast, uterine, ovarian or prostate cancer.
No toxicity reactions have been reported. The body's production is reduced with aging, stress, depression, hypothyroidism & toxin exposure, therefore pregnenolone may not always be present in our bodies at optimal levels & supplementation may be beneficial.
