OK I live in Curacao now and went fishing as the ocean is right down the street. I actually go to a gulf I guess you could call it. Anyway, I pulled this out of the water with a little piece of crap plastic white worm. I am not familiar with those types of lures and want to get some fake fish lures. What would be the best type to get for this area of the Caribbean? Also what kind of fish is this anyway in the photo? It is in an Igloo ice chest, a big one, he prolly weighed 12-15lbs. I gave a guy the head and he cleaned and gutted it for me. The other photo is an Iguana that hangs out outside to sun. Iguanas here are HUGE. Anyway, any help would be great to identify the fish. My best guess is a saltwater bass but who knows.....I will post more pics of other fish I catch with bait. I dont know what they are either, look like a perch but bigger, maybe 2-3lbs. each. Feel free to post pics. of catch of the days!

Its called a Snook
Some claim they are the best tasting fish of all. They cannot be caught commercially in US waters. The limits are very, very tight. I have never caught any of them that were within the slot - either too big or too small.

Hey erock, that looks like a Snook to me! I have no idea how to fish in the Carribean, but I go to NW Florida twice a year. No snook in that area, so I can't offer any advice. You can catch a whole bunch of stuff where I go on "Gotcha" plugs and spoons. Match colors to local baitfish and you should be good.
Here's a couple pics, one of a redfish, and some red snapper and grouper with a few other assorted fish.

Nice, my bug out house is about 60 miles from you. Have you heard any updates on how the independency from N.A. is coming along? How do you think that will affect the country?

Yes, that's definitely a snook. I have caught many of them here in SE Florida. They have razor blade sharp gills so always pick the fish up by grabbing the lower jaw as they do not have teeth. Never cook a snook with the skin on as the skin imparts a soap like taste to the fish, otherwise they are a very desirable table fare.

Aww, now you took all the fun out of his experience.
You are absolutely correct, however.
