I live in Sydney and drive to work past Sydney airport, about 8 km from the CBD. It's 7-45am Sydney time as I write.
On General Holmes Drive traffic was held up for over 10 minutes whilst 3 or 4 limos with police outriders and cars - about 9 in all - went through, sirens on, lights flashing.
I continued into the city, parked and went to the InterContinental Hotel for a breakfast meeting with a business associate. We didn't make it - the place was alive with security, lots of plainclothes guys talking into their ties, the atmosphere was electric! My colleague took off, but I was curious and hung around. I have on a dark suit, white shirt, tie - I wear my hair short and I'm 180cm and and I guess could be taken for security. Anyway, no one took much notice of me and I went through the lobby into a large meeting room next to the restaurant. Boy! I can't believe what I saw! Saddam! He had a dark business suit and was surrounded by ME guys as well as Aus/Us security. There was another guy, an American whose face I've seen on TV but I don't know his name. A US security guy then picked me and asked for ID, I started mumbling that I was here for breakfast and 2 of them practically picked me up and I was out of there so fast! They were not gentle people. Something big is going on, that's for sure. I've just got back to my ofice and my heart is still pounding! It'll be on the news tonight, watch out for it.
