Oklahoma 'Games As Porn' Bill Signed Into Law
Oklahoma Governor Brad Henry has signed into law the State-specific Bill HB30004, which redefines a list of items, such as hardcore pornography, which are deemed “harmful to minors”, to include video games which use “inappropriate violence”.

The bill was authored by Republican State Representative Fred Morgan, and takes a similar stance to Utah Republican David Hogue’s HB257 “games as porn” bill, which was struck down in March, but would have made it a felony to knowingly exhibit or sell violent video games to minors.

The new Oklahoma law is due to come into effect from November 1st, but is in the meantime likely to be contested by industry body the ESA, under First Amendment concerns. Despite being one of the more draconian anti-games bills put before a State senate HB30004 has faced limited opposition, with apparently little concern being given to the consistent problems other similar bills have faced from legal challenges.

The new law will make it a felony for anyone in Oklahoma to sell, rent or display games which contain inappropriate violence, with stores required to keep such games hidden in a similar manner to pornographic magazines and videos. The bill ignores the ESRB age rating for games, and instead makes its own definition of inappropriate violence.

This definition considers inappropriate any game which “lacks serious literary, scientific, medical, artistic or political value”
and which features glamorized or gratuitous violence;:boxing:
uses that violence to shock or stimulate:wazzup_sg ;
features violence that is not contextually relevant to the material;:spam4: has violence so pervasive that it serves as the thread holding the plot of the material together;
trivializes the serious nature of realistic violence;
does not demonstrate the consequences or effects of realistic violence;:stickyman
uses brutal weapons designed to inflict the maximum amount of pain and damage;:bash:
endorses or glorifies torture or excessive weaponry,
or depicts lead characters who resort to violence freely.:ridinghor

I'm not a citizen of Oklahoma state, so I'm not in a position to complain that my state legislature has wasted taxpayer time and money by passing a law that will be overturned the first time it is brought into court.

I wonder IF the onslaught of NWO games will count.

Last I looked, just about HALF the current crop of games feature some MILITARY outfitted guy blowing away the "BAD GUY".
Of course, YOU play as the "Military" guy.

Talk about conditioning...........

So in most first-person shooters, you have guns and kill people that are considered bad?

I'm shocked! Just shocked!

I think what he means is the proliferation of games where you are "special forces" or something like that and the enemies are "terrorists", rebel groups and there is even one in which you are fighting American Militia groups. Total brain washing job. It is one thing for a decerning adult to play these games but imagine the effect it will have on childern. The NWO likes em young.

You know if parents did their job they wouldn't even have to consider legislation like this.

better for the young White kids who are heavy computer users to get out and learn to shoot real guns than electronic images of them. However I feel that we should promote video games in the ghetto to help pacify the savages.

I think you've got it wrong.

I don't think these games pacify.

I think they implant a subconscious desire, or even stimulate a conscious desire, to go out and do the real thing.

I'm not sure how relevant this is to the discussion but here we go. :D :spam4:

The US army put out a freeware video game called America's Army. It was designed as a brainwa I mean um... recruitment tool.

Here is where things get a little strange. There are two teams in a match, the American Army guys and the terrorists.

HOWEVER, both sides play as the 'good guys' and see the other side as terrorists.

So, I see myself and all my teammates as GI's with American weapons and the other team is full of towel headed terrorists with AK-47's. The other team sees you as the terrorists. :bandito:
