The Constitution FOR the united (small 'u') STATES of America before 1871.
After the war the Congress of united STATES decided that they "did not want any group of STATES declaring their INDEPENDENCE anymore nor any less."
So they usurped all the power of the united STATES and made them under their FEDERAL control by making them THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA instead of individual power states according to the Bill of Rights. Knowing this fact alone the BILL OF RIGHTS reads quite a bit different. Especailly the 2nd, and 10th Amendments. Plus remember Article TEN about gold and silver money only coined by the STATE for payment of debt. Reading it now seems funny - but back then the STATES were supreme - not some court.
If you can just grasp the idea:
Looks rather small on its face changing the "for" to an "of "- but when you go from being a powerful individual STATE to one-of-many - you lose what the FOUNDING FATHERS set-up to protect us. ALL THE POWER TRANSFERED QUICKLY TO WASHINGTON, DC, WHICH BECAME A HUGE self-feeding SEPARATE ENTITITY, more powerful than any STATE was supposed to be - period.
