"Garlic Blasts Worst
Antibiotic Resistant Bacteria
Crush garlic 20 minutes before eating it...
This creates more beneficial chemical compounds
CHICAGO (UPI) - Microbiology researchers said Wednesday the active ingredient in garlic combats two of the nastiest antibiotic resistant microbes faced by doctors and patients.
The ingredient, a substance know as allicin, has been found effective in killing off methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus -- a microbe that has been especially troubling in skin and soft tissue wounds -- and in inhibiting growth of vancomycin-resistant enterococci, an intestinal bacteria that causes considerable illness and deaths in hospital settings...
"Allicin simply blows enormous holes through MRSA,' said Ronald Cutler, senior lecturer in microbiology at the University of East London, England..."

A Hungarian lady told me the story about how when she was a child in Hungary, a local man came down with rabies. He went out of his mind and they locked him in a barn with a lot of garlic. He went wild and started to eat the garlic and cured himself. I don't know if the story was true or not but I do know garlic can be a powerful antibiotic.
Yes, the man must have been really hungry.

And makes it more tasty as well. Great on Spinach.
Rabies is a virus (not bacteria) and would be within the brain cells by the time the patient is symptomatic.
Maybe the guy was driven insane by bland food.

Thanks for the article Jasper. I just sent it to my daughter in Florida. She is a physician’s assistant and has told me that there have been people there dieing from MRSA and the doctors can’t seem to help them.
Doesn’t garlic also fend off vampires ? Maybe we should send some to the silver Comex shorts.
Here’s a couple of excerpts from a website :
Garlic: Garlic is another ancient method of fending off evil spirits. Garlic has been used in cultures throughout the world as a healing medicine and natural vitamin. It was thought to have a purification principle much like the metal Silver. People would hang it outside their doorways to keep evil spirits from entering their homes. The ancient societies got a little carried away with Garlic condemning anyone who had an aversion to garlic as a vampire. Garlic was also passed out during church ceremonies so that church official could be sure that no evil spirits were attending.
Silver: When most people think of silver weapons killing monsters they think of silver bullets and werewolves, however, silver stakes, spears and daggers have also been known to slow down and kill vampires. Silver is considered to be a metal of purity and has been used for protection against evil in almost every world culture throughout history. Silver can be melted down to form amulets, jewelry, bullets, daggers and religious symbols such as crucifixes. Silver amulets and daggers can be put into the ground above the grave to prevent evil spirits from escaping. Silver nails drove into coffin lids are said to help prevent evil spirits from rising from the grave.

As for garlic, I'm sure it works but I'm inclined to think that Colloidal Silver probably works as well or better.

Garlic has been reported to be an antivirual too.
It probably is, but the problem with garlic - and with all other natural remedies that people have been treating themselves successfully with for centuries - is that they can't be patented.
The big shift to the use of unnatural remedies took place after WWII ended, and I think one of the many hidden reasons underlying that war was to help bring about that shift - a shift to better living through chemistry - and a shift that has led to the current spate of epidemics of every conceivable sort of illness.

We even feed garlic to our race horses, Thoroughbred and Standardbred.
The only colds in our race barn are with new horses shipping in.
Ground garlic is available in 5 gallon pails--fairly cheap.

Raw garlic is excellent for people who are prone to sinus infections, or persistent
colds.
This is a good article on the many medicinal uses of garlic, especially in emergency situations.
http://www.gourmetgarlicgardens.com/health.htm#anchordisaster
The Physiological Effects of Garlic
Studies by competent multi-degreed scientists have shown beyond any reasonable doubt that consuming garlic generally has the following physical effects:
* Garlic lowers blood pressure a little.
* Garlic lowers LDL Cholesterol a little.
* Garlic helps reduce atherosclerotic buildup (plaque) within the arterial system. One recent study shows this effect to be greater in women than men.
* Garlic lowers or helps to regulate blood sugar.
* Garlic helps to prevent blood clots from forming, thus reducing the possibility of strokes and thromboses (It may not be good for hemophiliacs).
* Garlic helps to prevent cancer, especially of the digestive system, prevents certain tumors from growing larger and reduces the size of certain tumors.
* Garlic helps to remove heavy metals such as lead and mercury from the body.
* Raw Garlic is a potent natural antibiotic and, while far less strong than modern antibiotics, can still kill some strains of bacteria that have become immune or resistant to modern antibiotics.
* Garlic has anti-fungal and anti-viral properties.
* Garlic dramatically reduces yeast infections due to Candida species.
* Garlic has anti-oxidant properties and is a source of selenium.
* Garlic probably has other benefits as well.

like what juice? it would be good in tomato based juice but when I was little my mom accidentally blended orange juice in a blender that had been used to crush garlic and then set aside mistakenly without cleaning. it was the most disgusting stuff we'd ever had, and we love garlic.
my parents were so frugal we all had to force down a glass before they finally agreed to chuck it.
my dad was laughing, telling us about how they had to drink sour milk during the depression.

I use it with both veggies and fruits. I love it in a mix of orange, apple, celery juice in the morning. I like the kick it provides to the flavor. And with tomato and a little greens it's good too. I usually add a slice of apple to temper the greens. apple goes with almost anything.
Your problem was probably due to it setting in the juicer.

From what I understand, they do not have the power that fresh, raw garlic has.
The active ingredient, allicin, is activated by exposure to air, and will dissipate within a few hours.
I recommend crushing up a clove, and letting it sit for 10-15 minutes before you eat it. Or if you use it in a juice or in a salad, try to ingest it within an hour of preparation.

I love to cook with garlic but I do reccommend these garlic pills:

I've tried several different brands of garlic pills but these i noticed the difference. I take one when i sense a cold coming on.

Just remember that with natural herbs, you may have to consume very generous doses since they are not concentrated in pill form.
For garlic, this could mean 3-8 bulbs per day. Not just a clove or 2.
So, if something natural doesn't seem to be working - you may just need to try more. Otherwise, it's like taking a shot of beer and figuring it's virgin if you don't get drunk!

3 - 8 bulbs a day!?!? Man, i don't know if i can handle that. I've been eating about a bulb a day mixed with meals, like a salad etc.
Anyone have any decent recipes that can utilize multiple bulbs without affecting the flavor too much?
