View Full Version : some newbie questions digital gold
1. How many digital gold company went out of buisness ? what was the reasons (if they are known) ? Did account holders lost their assets in most cases ?
2. About e-gold. Why it is so expensive ? 1% per year does not sound quite reasanoble to me. Shouldn't it be more like flat price or below 0.1% ? (that what I would be willing to pay with medium size account)
3. e-bullions - they have reasanoble (quite cheap in fact) prices, why didn't they overrun e-gold ? Is it not as relaiable as e-gold ? Or less transparent ?

Second, I'm not sure how long you have been reading the postings here at GIM, but most here do not believe in digital gold any more than they believe in digital dollars.
Third, my personal belief is this: If you do not have it in your hands, or in a place where you can have it in your hands within 5 minutes, you do not have it at all. All you have is a promise, nothing more.
As to your actual questions, I'm afraid I am going to have to admit ignorance.
I don't believe in it, so I have not researched it.
About 12 months or so ago 2 went out of business. One because it was a scam ( good one too it went for just on a year or just over) & the other because a Director did a runner with the funds & yes account holders lost everything.
E-Bullion , from memory, is based on US soil so is open to attack/investigation by the alphabets.
E-gold has been around since 1988 I think. In reality digital currencies are not really designed as investment vehicles & should not be regarded as such. They should be treated as you would treat your normal bank account. Have a few dollars in there to pay your bills etc.
Digital currencies ( i.e E-Gold) are ideal for payment of purchases for stuff bought overseas ( i.e buying through Ebay) . Much cheaper than sending a wire & using Western Union or other forms of payment.
Wish they had E-gold when I had my business I would of saved heaps in fees & charges by using by them.
