View Full Version : How Does It Work?

We are not going to try to second guess the FDA's rules and restrictions on this issue and what we can and cannot say. We will simply quote from the work performed by others at The Silver Institute which is a nonprofit international association that draws its membership from across the breadth of the silver industry. Established in 1971, the Institute serves as the industry’s voice in increasing public understanding of the many uses and values of silver.
Colloidal silver works as a catalyst. A catalyst is best described as a substance that brings about (causes) a reaction or occurrence, without itself participating or being consumed.
Richard Davies and Samuel Etris of The Silver Institute, in a 1996 monograph entitled "The Development and Functions of Silver in Water Purification and Disease Control", discuss three mechanisms of deactivation that silver utilizes to incapacitate disease causing organisms. They are:
1) Catalytic Oxidation
Silver, in its atomic state, has the capacity to absorb oxygen and act as a catalyst to bring about oxidation. Atomic (nascent) oxygen absorbed onto the surface of silver ions in solution will readily react with the sulfhydryl (-S-H) groups surrounding the surface of bacteria or viruses to remove the hydrogen atoms (as water), causing the sulfur atoms to form an R-S-S-R bond; blocking respiration and causing the bacteria to expire. Employing a simple catalytic reduction/oxidation reaction, colloidal silver will react with any negative charge presented by the organism's transport or membrane proteins and deactivate them.
2) Reaction with Bacterial Cell Membranes<O:P>http://www.earthbornproducts.com/IMAGES/howitw1.gif
There is evidence that silver ions attach to membrane surface radicals of bacteria, impairing cell respiration and blocking its energy transfer system. One explanation is based on the nature of enzyme construction: Specific enzymes are required for a given biochemical activity to take place. Enzyme molecules usually require a specific metallic atom as part of the molecular matrix in order to function. A metal of higher valance can replace a metal of lower valance in the enzyme complex, preventing the enzyme from functioning normally. Silver, with a valance of plus 2, can replace many metals with a lower, or equal valance that exhibit weaker atomic bonding properties.
3) Binding with DNA
Studies by C.L. Fox and S.M. Modak with Pseudomonas aeruginosa, a tenacious bacteria that is difficult to treat, demonstrated that as much as 12% of silver is taken up by the organism's DNA. While it remains unclear exactly how the silver binds to the DNA without destroying the hydrogen bonds holding the lattice together, it nevertheless prevents the DNA from unwinding, an essential step for cellular replication to occur.

So why doesn't the silver attack normal cells in the body?

A nasty side effect from using anti-biotics is that your "system" (intestines flora = bacteria) also are killed in the process. So that you become in that way somewhat upset, and that takes some time (weeks ?) to build up this intestines flora.
Question: if you consume the colloidal silver, then this will also kill the bacteria in your intestines, and so that you should have the same side effect...... I see nobody writing about it. How come ??

I have asked myself all these questions. IT is difficult to find any information on that, and even more difficult to gain trust in what little information there is on the subject.
1. This is just a guess, but I am fairly certain I remember that most bacteria and one-celled organisms have cellular membranes about 100 times thinner than human cell walls. I would think that this has something to do with human "immunity" to silver.
[Edit: If you think reading about my intestine, my tongue, or fungus might offend you, please ignore the rest of this post.]
2. Intestinal bacteria: I have read somewhere that you should not drink down a lot of colloidal silver too quickly, especially not on an empty stomach for just this reason. As to why conventional antibiotics attack your intestinal bacteria even if delivered through the bloodstream and colloidal silver does not, I have no idea (yet), but I would guess every substance is different when it comes to penetrating any given structure of the human body. There ARE antibiotics that don't work or work especially well in certain parts of the body. I like to experiment on myself, especially with things apparently as harmless as collodial silver, and I once drank down quite a bit, probably 8 ounces, but I didn't measure the PPM anyway, and a day after that I was expelling what looked like clear slime. It did not hurt and was not the typical diarrhea you might expect from antibiotics. Also, I have since tried to duplicate this experiment a few times, and I have had no intestinal reaction since. I might also mention that I only had diarrhea when I took penicillin for the first time in my life, never on any subsequent instances of taking different kinds of (amino)penicillin and even tetracyclines (if I am not mistaken).
While we are at it, I am kind of clumsy in all my endeavors, and I often bite my own tongue. It usually hurts for about four days while it heals. I used to brush my teeth and keep a 3% solution of hydrogen peroxide in my mouth for about 10 to twenty minutes every day. The "tongue healing process" still used to take about 4 days. Since I have been experimenting with colloidal silver, I have bit my tongue twice, and each time it took only about one day to heal to a point where I did not feel or see any injury. I now usually keep colloidal silver in my mouth for about 20 minutes right before I fall asleep.
I am also experimenting with what I believe to be a fungal infection, but this one has always been rather tricky, so I don't want to report on it until I have given it a few weeks to possibly recur.
Now for all the little geeks out there I can share my only in vitro experiment with colloidal silver so far:
Two weeks ago I thoroughly washed two cups and a knife with soap and hot water (but did not attempt to sterilize any of it), took a red grape, cut it in half and put each piece face down into a cup. Into one of them I had put about 2 ml of distilled water, and into the other one the same amount of colloidal silver that I had just made from the same distilled water. I left both cups sitting uncovered in my living room. After a week I could see mold growing on the side of one piece and another little colony of mold at a distance of about 1/4" from the piece of grape. The other cup (the one with the colloidal silver) showed no signs of mold. After another week, the mold in the first cup has grown slightly, and there is still no sign of mold in the second cup, but both grapes are now pretty dry. I think it's safe to say there won't be much happening in either cup anymore.
You draw your own conclusions. I always say "I guess" and I do not understand what's going on but simply rely on trial and error, but please keep this in mind: While most doctors don't talk about their doubts and most probably don't even have any, their "science" is just as much guesswork, speculation, and trial and error as what I have been doing. They, of course, don't share their theories and results as openly as I do. Let's hope we can get some sort of dialog going here. I prefer research conducted by a few intelligent and reasonably educated laymen working together openly and honestly to 95% of all medical doctors any day.

Hi ! Thanks for your detailed reply that is something to think over.
As you may understand I still have problems to see why the colloidal silver may be so active with regard to the harmful bacteriae and leaves the beneficial, intestinal bacteriae unharmed. Basically I refrain from taking any medicine unless it is absolutely necessary. I remember a MD prescribing anti-biotica when I was on ski vacation and that was badly effecting my stamina....
My spouse was thinking for some months that she was suffering from candida. Together we browsed the internet. Some people suggesting colloidal silver, but another warned that you could get a grey face. The picture of the grey was shocking ! BTW After all she did not suffer from candida, you know how women are, they always think that they are suffering from something terrible and all they have is a minor this or that.
The only minor problem I have is athlete foot (fungi). That is rather hard to treat, so my remedy is simply using foot powder to keep it thoroughly dry.
Anyway I am following the healing capabilities of colloidal silver. So many people enthousiastic about it, so some time I could use it too.
Question: what equipment/ way do you recommend to prepare it ? Name of vendor ? Understand that Clifton subsidiary is claiming to have superior technology for sale, or is that BS ?
Thank you

Excuse me, did my homework (studying the reference link: earthbornproducts).
There it is stated that Argyria (face becoming grey due to silver intake) can happen when the colloidal silver is prepared chemically but NOT when prepared electrically. I hope they are right....

I would not be so sure, but since I am not exceedingly attractive anyway I don't think grey skin would make much of a difference in my case.

Hi ! I think that you are a nice person, but too modest...
BTW Do you prepare your own colloidal silver or do you buy this ready for use ? In Europe IMO it is not yet well known. Shipping bottles ready-for-use to Europe is no good idea - and also fairly expensive. So I am looking for reliable system for making it myself.
And I cannot afford a grey face otherwise even our cat would not appreciate me anymore .... LOL...

BRDo a search here at GIM on colloidal silver! In one of the threads, I posted how I make it and also posted a picture of the home made unit that I use. I believe I even posted a list of all the items needed to build it along with the Radio Shack numbers of the components. I also posted step by step instructions on building it. If they do not have a Radio Shack close to you, you may still be able to cross refrence the numbers.

The way I do it is certainly not optimal, but it's good enough for me. I just try to put current and air through distilled water (using .999 coins as electrodes). If you care about getting a grey face or want a consistent, high quality way of manufacturing colloidal silver, I am not the right person to give you advice. Sorry. But like IrishGold said, there is some excellent information in a different thread.

The thread you want is http://goldismoney.info/forums/showthread.php?t=6539
In one post, I give the parts list and instructions and in a later post in the same thread, I have a picture of it.
