And just what is meant by the terms "Deep Storage" and "Working Stock"????
Deep Storage: Deep-Storage gold is the portion of the U.S. government-owned Gold Bullion Reserve that the U.S. Mint secures in sealed vaults, which are examined annually by the Department of Treasury's Office of the Inspector General. Deep-Storage gold comprises the vast majority of the Reserve and consists primarily of gold bars. This portion was formerly called "Bullion Reserve" or "Custodial Gold Bullion Reserve."
If they are "examined annually," why can we not see a report of this under the FOIA
Working Stock: Working-Stock gold is the portion of the U.S. government-owned Gold Bullion Reserve that the U.S. Mint uses as the raw material for minting congressionally authorized coins. Working-Stock gold comprises only about 1 percent of the Reserve and consists of bars, blanks, unsold coins, and condemned coins. This portion was formerly listed as individual coins and blanks or called "PEF Gold."
I think this is really all the gold that the Treasury owns. All the rest really belongs to someone else or is non-existant

Uh huh. I'll believe it until I see it. The U.S. Mint may have some working-stock gold but this deep storage gold sounds like a government lie to me. Its probably all owned by foreign countries or something (if it exists).

What I find interesting is the "book value" is based on a little over $42.00 an ounce......good link, thank you...Saw a special on gold a few months ago about Ft Knox....why was it chosen for gold storage? Answer: back in 1930's due to location of Military Ft Knox Tank Corp, it was considered the most defendable location of the time......

GATA and two other experts figure that 15,000 tons are missing - therefore the "deep storage" recent annotation. Yeah, it's gone and the rest of it is deep in the UNFOUND bowels of America.

15,000 tons (times 32,151 ounces each) makes for one huge pile last audited in 1950. A second real reason Fort Knox was picked was that it is OFF-LIMITS to the public because it's an Army fort. The next reason is that trucks can load up there quietly and ship off the 15,000 tons.

Funny how the new head caretakers always change the holding by name:
First it was America's gold; then Custodial gold (probably held for the custody of others); and now the greatest height toward American ignorance - Deep Storage gold. Yeah, it's deep all right - I need to buy a pair of boots so I don't step in it.

I think now that maybe Nixon and his group sold the last of it trying to support the Contras. The CIA wasn't making enough off the dope deals to be self supporting.

My view is that there are certainly people out there who understand exactly that precious metals are the only real money, and those people keep saying "let me take that heavy metal off your hands" and keep hoarding it. I bet everyone on this planet would be surprised to find the identities, quantities, and locations involved. But I wouldn't worry too much about what others have or where they have it. One thing is certain: When paper money comes crashing down, anyone who has 100 ounces of gold will be a very wealthy person. Until then, we will all be nothing but "weirdoes". Let's face it, we are not going to get rich, famous, or anything, while gold stays below $5000. But it won't.
