Is there a market in Canadian silver? Is there such a thing as a $1000 bag of Canadian silver dollars? Seems like a bag of big coins like that would be cool, but have never seen anything like that offered. TIA

Why would you have to stay away from them? They are 80% silver. Just that I've never heard of them being offerd in $1000 face bags.

I always did like the cannoe or 1957 totem pole design and I love the modern maples, although the redesigned 2004 Ag maple is just plain ugly.

Does anyone know the silver content of the Canadian dimes,quarters, halves and dollars? I recently purchased a 1964 Canadian silver dollar, cool looking coin. I know they are .800 fine. What was the last year they were minted? Didn't they go to a reduced silver content before going completely fiat?

Canadian dollar coins from 1967 and earlier are 80% silver. Each canadian silver dollar has .6 oz of silver. 1968 was the first year of slag/clad dollar coins.

I would stay away from 67-68 canadian quarters. During this time the silver content was lowered from 80% to 50% to 30%(?). I found alot of confusion about when/where/how much.

If you want to go with Canadian, I would stay with the Canadian silver dollars because of the constant % .6 oz of silver (till 68) and also the backside of the coins vary from year to year. Kinda cool!

Best bet to find canadian silver might be Ebay. When you search look for 'Canada' and 'Canadian'. You can find some deals.

The coins might be hard to sell when that day comes unless you are close to the Canadian border and your buyer is familar with canadian coins.

I just saw a 2004 Silver Maple Leaf on Ebay. What the hell were they thinking? On the obverse, the queen looks like a cartoon character! She looks like Martha Washington!

Libertarian, thanks for your information. I would pursue an active market where one can quickly deal in large quantity and small spread. The responses and lack of response suggest that such a market does not exist for these particular coins. If they are of numismatic interest, nice, but that is secondary to me. YMMV

I recently bought 500 BU Canadian silver dollars. An active market is of no concern to me, only silver content. As long as spot stays well above my cost, I can always dump them off to a refiner if there is no other market. They are attractive coins but I buy for profit and would have no compunction about selling them for melt.

I bought the BU Canadians at Certified Mint in AZ but they do not normally deal in them. They were just cleaning out their back room and I bought all they had. Last week I bought a 100 oz bar for $.30 under spot and 100 1 oz rounds at spot from local pawn shops. Apparently they are nervous about the price and wanted to unload.
Just a little more price advance and we will have a well developed short squeeze.
