Old Silver Dollar Question

Hello all,

I just picked up 20 morgan/peace silver dollars for $11 each. What is the silver content? I know it is slightly higher than .715, anyone know the exact percentage.

Which means that when the spot POS hits $14.22 - you will be even!

However, the Morgans and Peace dollars are GREAT to have!

I still have a hundred or so that I kept from back when Reno and Vegas was full of them. So I guess you could say that I paid a dollar for them.

Of course the dollar back then would buy you 4 gallons of gas - or a ticket to a movie - or a good hamburger, a milkshake and french-fries at the drive-in.

Lorenzo, I don't know what kind of dates/mintmarks, or condition you paid for. Most dealers will sell VG to VF 1921 Morgans, and common date Peace Dollars (1922, 1923) for around $9.00 or so right now. I like silver dollars myself. Six months ago, they cost more than silver Eagles, now they are cheaper. I just picked up 20 Peace Dollars for $6.95 each on Ebay a week ago. They are in VG condition I would say. Eagles might be a little better buy, but They aren't making any more of the old Silver Dollars anymore.

With old silver dollars, in my opinion, it is not a case of paying too much---it is just a case of buying too soon. I love the old real money dollars, have a batch of them laid back for the kids...figure they can then make a decision for themselves about what is real money: Piece of funky-colored paper with pictures on it, or real-deal precious metal.

that would be the amount of silver in an uncirculated coin. If you want to know how much silver you have in that particular roll.........

An uncirculated dollar weighs 26.73 grams. A roll of twenty would weigh 534.6 grams. If your coins are not uncirculated you must weigh your roll of coins and figure what percentage of 534.6 grams you have. Now take that percentage times .7736 per coin times 20. That is how much silver you have in that roll.

Or I guess the easy way would be to weigh the roll and multiply by 90%.

I guess my point here is that your coins have probably lost around 5% of their volume do to wear.

FWIW CNI will sell you Morgan Dollars for 9 bucks. If you are in the area it's not bad but there is a minimum and shipping for me so I'll just pick some up for good luck.

U might talk him down I just mentioned the Morgans in passing. I think he said something about 100 of them. I don't want to spend 1k on silver dollars.

I noticed they raised the buy and sell 25 cents. Why don't you sell them on Ebay ? Don't sell them to CNI. Those prices are for circulated not chopped to shit but circulated. You could probably get more from a local dealer. The spread is crazy.
