Greetings All,
As I have alluded to lately in several posts I'm currently being treated for colorectal cancer. I was diagnosed in August and started treatment in early September. My treatment is to consist of three stages; 1st combined chemo/radiation therapy, 2nd surgery, and 3rd a second round of chemotherapy. Tomorrow will be the last day of my 1st stage of treatment, which was 28 days of radiation/chemotherapy. It has been effective in that it has alleviated my constipation, which had become quite severe. I had lost about 10 lbs over the course of 5 months from the time symptoms started until I finally went to a doctor and was diagnosed. I have been lucky in that I have had few side affects from my treatment, just frequent BMs (although not diarrhea), painful hemorrhoids and radiation burn around my anus. Oh, and I've lost about 20 more lbs, primarily due to voluntary dietary restriction since it is painful to go to the toilet. I'm currently down to ~138 lbs on my 5'11'' frame. Up until now I really haven't changed my diet except for finally eliminating soda completely and substituting cranberry or grapefruit juice instead. My diet has been the typical American diet; high in fat, salt, sugar, fast-food, and low in fruits, vegetables, and fiber. Other than that though I didn't have any risk factors; I am not obese (5'11'' and ~175 at the beginning of the year before any symptoms started), I rarely use tobacco (maybe a cigar or two a year), rarely consume alcohol (maybe several drinks a year) and don't have a high level of stress. But I am now ready to change my diet drastically, along with some aspects of my lifestyle, to ensure my cancer never comes back. So the purpose of this thread is to ask for feedback from my fellow GIMers as to the kinds of changes I should think about making. Obviously I will be doing my own research, but it seems there are some good folks here who may have some intelligent advice. That would be welcome. Jokes at my expense (if good-natured) are also welcome; I try not to take myself too seriously. As a first step in my new lifestyle, I'm thinking of doing a whole body detoxification. So far the Dr. Schulze's products (www.herbdoc.com) look promising, especially the "Incurables Program" which includes a colon, liver-gall bladder, and kidney-blood detoxifying herbal remedies. I am thinking to use this not only to get rid of any accumulated dietary toxins, but also to purge myself of the residual chemo drugs as well. If anyone has any experience with the Dr. Schulze products or comparable products I would appreciate feedback. Another step will be to get a juicer and start drinking freshly prepared vegetable/fruit juices every day. The L'Equip® XL Juicer (http://www.pleasanthillgrain.com/juicers.aspx) seems to be an inexpensive but powerful juicer. I'll probably order one of these this weekend. Obviously I will start an exercise program, walking to begin with but I really want to start weightlifting again. There have been a couple of times in my life where I got up to 195 lbs of lean muscle and I can't imagine living my life as skinny as I am now. I would like to get back to 185 lbs or so at least, even up to 205 lbs if I get serious. Anything more and I would start looking too bulky. Finally I will have to learn how to radically change my diet and learn how to cook vegetables so I can eat them. I'm not planning on becoming a vegetarian but I need to cut way back on red meat and fats. However raw vegetables make me gag and the way my wife cooks them isn't much better; she basically just steams or boils them and adds salt. I do enjoy Southern Style vegetables though but they are hard to find in restaurants so I'll have to start cooking my own. No more fast food or pre-prepared microwavable crap like I've eaten most all my life. I will almost certainly go through with the surgery that is planned to remove any remaining tumor; this should happen in mid/late December. I am hoping that the detox program and even a month or so of healthy diet will minimize the amount of cutting that needs to be done. Depending on the surgical outcome I may or may not follow through with the second round of chemotherapy. I know that my oncologist will push for it regardless but if somehow I'm lucky and the surgeon finds little or no tumor to remove I may forgo it. Anyway, like I said, feedback is appreciated and so is a public forum where I can maybe get some encouragement and accountability. I don't have much of a social network in the real world, although I plan to work on that as well, so for now GIM will be my main source for this. Kind of sad in a way eh? Thanks in advance. Thank you so much for sharing your life.
My heart goes out to you, never give up and God bless you in your journey. William have a look into essential fats like flax seed oil and oatmeal. IMVHO only eat whole foods, NOTHING that is processed as it has chemical additives in it. A Big Mac once a month at most. Don't go too hard with radical diets as it will wear you thin, exercise 45 mins a day and eat those whole foods, plus lots of sleep and work only if you want to. Get into some comedy also and try to get laughing as much as you can. Kiwi

WilliamC:
My wife who is an RN and a LMT has been using this detox method for a couple of years now and swears by it. Dr Schulze seems to be everyones favorite. Every morning she juices up a whole bunch of veggies and fruits. www.curezone.com is a handy reference. My wife is always trying to get me to take these cures and I always resist. However there is something about your post that makes me want to reconsider that. Good Luck and thanks for sharing. |

If you are thinking about a juicer, think about a Norwalk.(like a Rolls-Royce of juicers) Makes the best juice there is. The best quality. It is work to use it , but if you have Cancer you need the best. Organic vege's and fruit plus Norwalk and you have nutrition that your body can absorb. Drink lots. If you can't buy new buy, buy a good second hand one. Had one for 30 years (second hand) never been in for fixing. Have a look at Gerson therapy. Good luck, I wish you great health.

Might want to take a look at Dr. Shinya's work. Is is a Gastroenterologist who developed one of the major technologies to remove polyps. He can tell you almost exactly what you eat by looking at your guts during a colonoscopy, and developed his lifestyle protocols on decades of observations of his patients. My wife has read his books in Japanese and we follow many of his guidelines. If you want to understand your colon, this guy is one of the best possible sources.
One of the things which we adopted from him which I find very helpful is that he recommends drinking warm/hot water rather than cold. 30 to 60 minutes before any meal. First thing in the morning is hot water. Think of it this way, you wash your dishes, your clothes and your body in warm water, because it is more effective, why not your insides? You will notice the difference if you try it. I wish you all the best, WilliamC! -gnome Quote:

Thanks all for the advice and replies so far.
I'll respond in more detail later. For now it's off to my final radiation treatment...after I deposit $150 worth of zinc pennies at my local dump bank (pardon the pun!) The Ryedale rides again! |

If your colon is irritated from the treatments, fiber would be the worst thing you can consume. It passes through the system undigested and damages the lining of your system. Your diet should consist primarily of meats and fats. Saturated fats are not bad for you, and fats overall will keep your digestive tract coated and flowing smoothly. Coconut oil is a fabulous supplement if you need to add fats to your diet for digestion.
Some references to check out: Good Calories, Bad Calories by Taubes is a MUST The Vegetarian Myth by Lierre Kieth, a former vegetarian of 20+ years Look online at blogs by Dr. Eades Good luck to you. Please do not try vegetarianism, it will hurt you, not help you.

Finished my last radiation therapy this afternoon.
For some reason I became quite emotional and choked up as I got into my car. Cried for about 1/2 hour driving home, mainly out of relief that this part of my ordeal is over with. Called my Father and my Brother to share this. We keep in touch by phone but we are not very expressive with each other. This was the closest moment I've had with them since my Mom passed away 9 years ago. My mental equilibrium is restored now and I'm back to my normal state of mind, which can be summed up as "Cynicism is my sword, sarcasm is my shield" with a wry sense of humor mixed in for flavor ;) Quote:

As for water, I have relatively easy access to as much distilled, deionized water as I want from a Millipore system from the lab I used to work at. It's about 40 miles from where I live but I could get a dozen gallons or more at a time if I wanted. Come to think of it I need to go visit my colleagues there soon, so I'll be sure to stock up. I can get 1 gallon containers of distilled water, empty them, then refill them with the ultrapure water. Cook with it and make my coffee with it, even drink some if I want :) Quote:
Well, time to do some things around the house and think about what I want for supper tonight. Chow! |

Thanks for your story. I had Guillane-Barre syndrome 2 years ago (not the same - but probably the same emotions), was in the hospital for a month, and got pretty close to death. If I could offer you one bit of advice, it would be listen to Kiwi-Envoy. Smile, laugh. You'll get through it, and when you do - it's a totally different, beautiful world :)

You might also try some energetic-emotional detoxing/healing and colonics (once your colon is fully healed, that is)..
And you may also look into trying the South American herb, Taheebo: Quote:

I am sorry to hear this.
Diet. This is 100% everything. Your previous diet simply lacked any elements and therefore you were dying. You seem to have accepted this and already knew it even though you made bad decisions in the past. Now you are taking "their" solution which most certainly will further weaken you. Unless you replace your lack of elements you will die from the treatment alone. You need to get right on your diet and right now. 100% no questions asked. Pump good elements into your body at all costs. Stay in the sun. Eat only raw organic foods. Nothing canned. Drink only water preferably from a glacier or clean well. Never city water. Exercise out in the sun even when it hurts. Get active. Lay in the beach sand. If you must cook vegetables, be sure to drink the broth created from the heating process. Otherwise you are getting dead food. Meat is not going to help you unless you shoot and dress it yourself. You can use this time to educate yourself and take your mind to the edge. Once you have the elements in you the mind will unlock its power and heal you without outside assistance despite your attempts to kill yourself though the use of mainstream medicine. Good luck. I will say a prayer for you and send some good vibes your way.

Again, thanks to all for the encouragement and advice.
Just ordered a juicer from Pleasant Hill Grains and the book "Juicing For Life Book". As soon as it comes in I'll at least start one healthy component of my new diet. It's looking to be another beautiful day here in North Mississippi, so I'll be outside for a while, doing some light yard work and playing with the kids. Quote:

I am on my 13th year as a cancer survivor. I had Accelerated Phase Chronic Mylelogenous Leukemia. Then I had a Bone Marrow Transplant in Seattle, Washington at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. I was in the hospital for months. I was there when Carl Sagan ("Billions and Billions of Stars" NASA and Cosmos Show guy) was there being treated. He did not go home. I was admitted with 13 other cancer patients. Eleven of them died there and I lost touch with the other so I do not know if he made it out or not. Still, I have never felt better about our little world or the people in it than when I was going thru treatment. I suppose it is because I realized what little difference it would make to anything whether I survived or not. I viewed folks better and if they did not view me the same ... well, I really didn't have the time to bother with them anyway. I feel fortunate simply to still be here. I have a deeper understanding to how it all ends ... for everyone. Most folks don't. Some actually feel like life is a game they can win. Hah! Most of the time the only thing I really want out of life is just for folks to let me and my family be (especially the government). Life is so hard ... for everyone. Why can't folks just let other folks be? From now on, mentally, you will be a survivor. The thing that strikes me most about this is truly that is what everyone else is too ... they just don't think about it as much as me I suppose. But I can see it when I look at them just like I can see it in myself. Sometimes I have to choke back laughter at their smugness. Best of luck in your recovery. I am sorry if my post was not uplifting for you. I suppose that is why I don't make a living as a motivational speaker. But there is true joy in this world and I experience that every time I look at my 5 year-old son. ![]() Sorry for rambling. I really just wanted to say hey and I know how you feel.

Hearing from someone such as yourself who is 13 years past your trial, and who is blessed with children of his own, is tremendously uplifting and gives me great hope. You are so right in how contracting a life-threatening illness forces you to re-prioritize your life. I had already come to grips with my mortality long ago, so on the day I found out I had cancer I was more annoyed than anything else. Both the Doctor who told me the news and my wife who was with me were both more visibly upset than I was; my very first reaction was quite literally to say "Ok, so when do I start treatment so I can get rid of this?". But that doesn't mean I had lived my life as intentionally as I needed to be doing, I was more like "of course I'm going to die and there is nothing I can do about it so I may as well not worry about it". But that's now no longer enough. I need to worry about it at least enough to change myself today and maximize the my chances of actually being here tomorrow. I do have too much to live for to continue with my blase' attitude about the future. And while I don't intend to become one of the hyper-enthusiastic perma-optimists who preach that the power of positive thinking can overcome all obstacles, I do need to stop always automatically assuming that the worst case scenario will unfold. Anyway, I just need to work on my lifestyle, not just my diet, so that 10, 20, or 40 years from now I can look back at this time of my life and be content that I learned my lesson from it so that I will be able to tell my grandchildren about it. Well, unless I get squished by a car or something first, which is statistically one of the most likely ways to croak. But 'cha can't win them all eh? ![]() |

Ordered several herbal supplements today.
From www.herbdoc.com I ordered their liver-gall bladder detox formula, the kidney-blood detox formula, and a bottle of the superfood plus tablets I mentioned above. Total cost with shipping $106.50. From www.pau-d-arco.com I ordered 1 lb of their lapaucho tea (thanks to Skilsaw for bringing this to my attention!). Total cost $25. I figure to try these and see how I react. If there is not much noticeable difference in a couple weeks then I'm out ~$125 and will be much more skeptical of other herbal remedies. If I get noticeable or better effects then I will add a few more supplements. I can't rightly say I believe in 'miracle cures' but I am open minded enough to try therapies that are not part of typical Western medicine. My juicer shipped today, should be delivered by the end of the week. At which time I'll head up to the nearest Whole Foods Market and buy some organic fruits and vegetables. While there I'll start inquiring about how to make the transition to a whole food diet. No matter what happens with the herbal supplements I will be sticking to a more wholesome diet from here on out. Best case scenario, when I have my surgery in December I'll be a month or more into these changes and they will have worked well enough so there is no detectable tumor left for the doctor to remove. If so I'll become completely sold on the idea of herbal/holistic healing and will start pushing my family to change their diets as well. That's what I'm aiming at at any rate! Of course if none of this works and I'm chock-full-of cancer then I'll just resign myself to an eternal diet of and know that for me is my new reality. ![]() |

Been very busy last few days.
Actually started on two separate posts but was interrupted and unable to finish either one. Just wanted to make a post even if I am not going to take time to say much. I did get a juicer and am juicing fresh vegetables and fruits. I got hold of a large supply of deionized water and am using it to drink (sparingly) and to wash/cook my food in. The lapacho tea came in today and I'm going to be drinking ~1 quart a day. It's a bit bitter but not intolerably so. I almost just lost this post to time-outing 'cause I'm trying to do other things instead of posting, so I'll call it quits for now. |

Sounds good so far!
About eating whole foods: Since you are starting from scratch the best thing you can do is stick right to the source and then eat small portions of a variety of organic foods from all over the world at the same time. The reason for this is that if your focus is too narrow you might not get all the elements in balance due to a lack of something in a particular soil or country's soil. There is an entire book worth of theory behind this that I wont get into here now. The elements work all together with the air, the sun and your skin etc. So to get your air fixed you can be outside more in areas such as forests or high ground with fresh a breeze. You might also think about supplementing with 35% hydrogen peroxide. To fix the sun, again, be outside. Don't wear long sleeves or a hat or sunglasses or sun tan lotions etc. 15min to 2 hours a day is good depending on time of year or region. Exercise being important for strength, circulation etc is how you spend your time outside and in the sun. There you are getting all of the above from one effort. Maybe a bike ride will suffice. This will also get your vitamin D up to normal levels. Food: (I will throw out some basic ideas about it.) Its actually cheaper to eat like this once you get into it. Bread: You have to grind your own flours from wheat berries on an as needed basis. You might add in some honey mesquite flour for sweetness. This would also regulate your blood sugars perfectly. You can practically live off that alone. Almost no one eats real bread like this. Doing it any other way is dead food. Milk: raw only. No pasteurization or homogenization. You can only get this from a farm directly or from a health food store. The processing is what is hurting your element intakes. Juice is usually the same way. Again no pasteurization. Better if you use your juicer. Olive oils are good raw. Nuts. Raw milk cheese, organic fed eggs without soy feed are awesome. Or get a chicken. Salt: ditch all table salt. Its not a food at all. Use sea salt or rock salt or something expensive and foreign from some dead sea bed in rock form. Ketchup: high fructose = bad juju Mustard is OK and Mayo is out due to fats and soy. Fruit and veggies are self explanatory. If you must cook them then drink the broth too as the vitamins get leached out into the water. I prefer light steaming and drink the water too. What about the shower? Here you are likely chlorinating yourself daily with a chlorine mist from the city water supply. Consider a filter there. Dr Hulda Clark recommended ditching soap, toothpaste and shampoos and all your accessory creams, sprays and detergents in favor or Soap: mule team borax Shampoo mule team borax conditioner: citric acid (small hand full into glass gallon jug (don't drop it!)) toothpaste: hydrogen peroxide food grade or baking soda or I just use a natural one. Shave: I don't shave with anything but water but citric acid is slick enough to use for that. Laundry: Mule team borax. You wont believe how much you will save while being healthy. One last suggestion: This one depends on how rich you are. There is something called dark field microscopy. With one of these you can monitor your own blood and test daily or more and see how what you do is affecting your blood chemistry. This is very powerful stuff. http://www.stepstoperfecthealth.co.u...d_analysis.htm To me all cancer is is a yeast infection internally. Once your elements are too low the yeast gets a foothold and turns healthy cells into dead ones. This can be turned around in a matter of days. If would be great if you fixed your diet etc and got a clean bill of health on your next visit. Put the doctor in shock. Maybe save you from chemo. I don't know if any of this will work for you but maybe you can take some ideas from many and find something that works for you.
