Default Iran to introduce 35KWs of solar power into there grid.

Well obviously the evil Iranians have a nefarious sun weapon that they intend to aim at the US and decimate our population with skin cancer. Why else would they be invloved in renewable energy?

Solar-generated electricity linked to national power grid

Tehran Times Energy Desk
TEHRAN, Oct. 8 (MNA) – Installation of most parts of the mirrors of Shiraz’s solar power plant, Fars Province, will be completed until end of the current Iranian year, falling on March 20, 2005.

Yusef Armudeli, chairman of Renewable Energy Organization of Iran (REOI), speaking about the organization’s activities in using solar energy to generate electricity, said that the organization’s sections for converting solar energy into electric energy is activating in two parts of photovoltaic electric energy and constructing solar power plant.

He added that in the part of photovoltaic electric energy, the 35-kW-energy photovoltaic panels has been produced and connected to the entire network, 5 kW of which has presently come on stream in the main building of the research center’s deputy for the energy affairs.

Pointing out to the pilot solar power plants constructed by this organization, the chairman said that in the power plant section, 30-kW experimental power plant of Taleqan has converted 65 mWh of solar energy to the electricity and delivered it to the entire network. He added that a 250-kW polite power plant is about to be established in Shiraz, beside the gas power plant of this city by the Iranian experts.

Noting that 2 mW electricity has been injected into the national power grid through the electric energy converted from solar energy, he said that Shiraz pilot power plant accumulates the sunlight through 6000 convex mirrors and after changing the heat to steam, it turns on a special electric machine to generate electricity.

In conclusion, Armudeli announced that 70% of constructing Shiraz’s solar power plant has been completed, expressing hope that most parts of the mirrors will be installed until end of Iranian year of 1383. FK/MA END MNA

The most logical place on the bloody planet to utilized solar power ... why the hell not ?

It's free, it's cheap to upkeep, and it doesn't require US contractors to maintain.

Before the oil age is over we'll all be praying to the sun god for help.

Here's my latest shop project I just completed ...... cute eh ?

Works too !

TVA power distributors have a deal for "green power" you can sign up for....power generated by renewable sources ( solar, wind, methane from landfills, etc)...you pay about double what plain ole power costs, but they really push it on your power bill.

Recent report says the program is going Soooo good, TVA has been "selling" about 42% more greenie power than is actually being produced.....you know, slipping some of that dirty power in and just calling it green......heck, who knows WHAT color the juice coming down the line is.....ahahahahaaaa

Funny thing is, TVA has a deal if you want to produce power from a micro source, like your own solar, wind, hydro deal, they will pay you 15 cents/KWHr for any excess for 10 years.....but your local power distributor has to agree to participate in the deal.....ours doesn't......in fact, only 4 in the TVA system do. 15 cents is about 2 times the rate we buy at, so that would be a real deal IF our local clods would go along.

Doesn't matter......my plan is to get off grid anyway in the next 2 years.

Agreed on that, I don't need to spend thousands of dollars for an elaborate electrical intertie that meets their specs either. They can keep their money.

Hey, that looks awesome Halo! Do you live in a windy area? I take it this is a 1:10 scale model of the final product? :)

Funny ..... no, it's a battery charger for my hunting cabin.

Goes with the PV panels already there.

Thats awsome Halo.

It doesent look like the standard Hugh Pigget (break rotor stator) design. Care to elaborate on what materials and what not you used?

Im going to the east coast of Canada this week and am looking at acreage I plan on starting a hobby farm and use wind and hydro to eventually be able to live off the grid.

No problem;

It's a 40 volt PM Ametek tape drive motor direct driven by a 36 inch custom flex fan turbine - rated at 4000 rpm/100 mph, no furling mechanism needed. Output is only 10 to 12 amps but on the coast or flatlands that's pretty much constant charging. At half the output we're talking about 2000 watt hr per day charging or equal to fully charging 20 marine batteries.

I'm using a simple welded pivot assembly that mounts the drive motor and tail boom made of 3/4 galvanized pipe that screws into it. An arbor adapter mounts the turbine hub to motor/generator. The entire wind generator fits on a single 1-inch pipe pole, no elaborate tower is necessary. This little genny weights only about 35 lbs.

Power wires run from the generator down inside the support pipe to a junction box at the base of the pole for electrical connection.

I can custom build just about any size wind generator you want, pending your wallet's limits. I also build PV panels, got a 50 watter on the table right now.

- Halo
